ANNOUNCEMENT: Charleston Battery Youth Soccer Club

September 20, 2017

“The newly formed Charleston Battery Soccer Club has merged with the Summerville Soccer Club following a vote of approval by the SSC’s Board of Directors and parents Tuesday night. The partnership is subsequent to last week’s announcement of the Charleston Battery’s intentions to start a youth soccer club and is effective immediately.

Founded in 1981, Summerville Soccer Club has been home to thousands of youth soccer players in the area for more than 35 years. SSC currently has approximately 1,100 developmental and competitive players in their programs who will now become the first ever players for Charleston Battery Soccer Club.

“We’re really excited to welcome all the players, parents, and coaches from Summerville Soccer Club into the Charleston Battery family,” said Chief Operating Officer Mike Kelleher. “This partnership gets us off and running for 2017 and sets things in motion for the future. The added resources and facilities will help us achieve our goal of growing the sport while continuing to  offer soccer programs to all families in our community.”

Charleston Battery Soccer Club’s merger with Summerville Soccer Club includes all SSC facilities and fields. The SSC Complex consists of eight full-sized fields, four of which are lighted. The Championship Field also includes spectator stands and an electronic scoreboard. The Complex will be Charleston Battery Soccer Club’s primary site for training and matches for the fall of 2017.

“Our merger with Charleston Battery Soccer Club plugs Summerville into a larger professional framework of soccer and instruction,” said Summerville Soccer Club President Mary Brown. “We’re now able to provide a ladder for players to reach highest levels of soccer in this country.”

Following Tuesday’s vote, Charleston Battery Soccer Club now has teams competing at every age group beginning with U4 and continuing through U18 for the 2017 fall season. Adopting SSC’s structure, CHS Battery SC currently offers Micro (U4-U8), Junior Academy (U9-U12) and Elite/Select (U13-U18). Future plans include a USSF Development Academy and an expanded recreational program.

Rosters and player pools are set for the current fall season, however, Charleston Battery Soccer Club will be hosting open tryouts for eligible players for additional programs, as permitted.  More information will be made available in the near future. Parents and GK’s,

My deepest apologies, but I am cancelling the GK camp. Between the uncertainty over field availability and the lack of time to squeeze the camp in, too high a mountain to climb. I’m planning to run a winter break camp, so keep an eye out for details. I hope to see everyone for the start of group sessions next week. Again, apologies.

Dusty Hudock

Parents and GK’s,

Unfortunately, I need to adjust the schedule again for the GK camp. The field is still not ready. Below is the new schedule:

Thursday – 4pm to 8pm
Friday – 4pm to 8pm
Saturday – 9am to 1pm

Hopefully we’ll get some dry weather. I look forward to seeing you all out there tomorrow.”

Dusty Hudock

Dear Parents and GK’s,

Unfortunately, due to the weather, the GK camp will not start today. Instead we will start tomorrow (August 9th) at 4pm and finish at 8pm. Weather permitting that will be the schedule for both Thursday and Friday as well. This ensures that everyone will get the promised
12 hours of instruction.

Dusty Hudock

The new dates for the camp are 8/8/17 through 8/11/17, 5pm to 8pm, at SSC.

“My deepest apologies for changing the dates of my GK camp. Unfortunately, during the week I hoped to be working with your kids I will be travelling with the Charleston Battery to Pittsburgh. The mix up is completely my fault. To those of you who planned on attending and now can’t, again I sincerely apologize. To those of you who can make it, I look forward to seeing you out there on the 8th of August. The camp will be a great way to kick off a successful fall season!”

3rd Annual Golf Tournament Recap

Summerville Soccer Club’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament was held on Monday May 22nd at the beautiful Coosaw Creek golf course.  As we anticipated, this event was highly successful and well-attended – we doubled the number of golfers, hole sponsors, donations, and proceeds this year!   In total, 76 golfers participated, and the event raised a little over $6,000.  After a fun-filled 18 holes of golf, the Lowcountry Barbershop team (54) prevailed as the overall winner, narrowly inching out the runners-up (56).

As our club’s largest fund-raising event, all of the proceeds go towards helping us fulfill our mission of providing the best opportunity for children of all ages to develop and enhance their soccer abilities, while maintaining a level of enjoyment and love for the game.  SSC consistently employs the best staff possible in order to aid in the development and education of our players and coaches. Additionally, we continuously strive to, not only develop great players and athletes, but also to develop great people and leaders that will enhance our community.

We are so very thankful that the weather held off, and while the humidity was really high, the mostly-overcast day turned out to be pretty perfect!

3rd Annual Golf Tournament Results:

– Champions:  Ken Buhle, Alex Buhle, Dex Badgett, Cory Wilhoit (Lowcountry Barbershop)
– Runners-Up:  Peter Quick, John Patterson, JP Johns, Tom Ritch
– Longest Drive Winner:  Jamie Lopez
– Closest to the Pin Winner:  Mark Awtry

In addition to the golfers’ participation, this year’s event could not have been possible without the efforts and philanthropic support of our sponsors and donors.
